This week, Haywire Books reissued a 20th anniversary edition of Patricia Henley’s Hummingbird House, a beautiful novel about women in war-torn Guatemala in the 1980s.

The books was originally published in 1999 by MacMurray & Beck, a terrific small publishing house that launched several notable careers. The house sold to MacAdam/Cage, and when the latter house went bankrupt, a body of great American literature went out of print.

We are pleased to bring Hummingbird House back to life for a new generation of readers. This edition includes a foreword by novelist Steve Yarbrough, another MacMurray & Beck veteran, as well as a Q&A with Henley and a book club reader’s guide.

Check out this profile in The Millions to learn more about the story behind the book and Henley’s writing.
