Hey I know I owe you to read like four of the books you’ve recommended to me, so where do I get off recommending one to you… but…
I’m on page 100 of 600 in a new book called “A Republic of Mind and Spirit,” by Catherine Albanese (2007, I think). Don’t buy it yet, but I wanted to put it on your radar early. The central claim is that in addition to the Evangelical (“conservative”/Protestant/marked by concern for individual transformation) and Liturgical (“liberal”/Catholic/marked by concern for community) religious traditions in America, there has always been a third, which Albanese gathers under the term “metaphysical religion.”
In part I’m mentioning it because you watched that YouTube video, where I clamored for a renewal of engagement with American ideas — two days later, from Amazon.com, it arrived in the mail! Look for a forthcoming video or two inspired by the book.
Again, congrats on the 10k. I’ve never done that much at once. I do 5ks about once a week… I consider myself in good shape if I can knock that off in 27 minutes. Certainly couldn’t keep that pace up for a 10k!
